NSS Unit LBS GOVT. PG. COLLEGE SARSWATI NAGAR

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It was launched in 1969, the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of students through voluntary community service.

At Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Post Graduate College, Saraswati Nagar, the NSS unit plays a central role in fostering values such as social responsibility, national integration, discipline, leadership, and a spirit of volunteerism among students. The unit operates under the guidance of trained faculty members who serve as program officers and mentors.

The college, located in a remote and hilly region of Himachal Pradesh, provides the perfect backdrop for meaningful community service. The students not only engage in academic pursuits but also actively participate in making a positive impact on rural society, which surrounds the institution.

Vision & Mission

The NSS Unit envisions creating a society where educated youth contribute meaningfully to solving real-world challenges and uplift underprivileged communities. It encourages values such as empathy, cooperation, discipline, and patriotism. The mission is to cultivate a generation of socially conscious individuals who work towards sustainable development, environmental preservation, and inclusive growth.

Objectives of NSS

  1. Personality Development:
NSS provides a platform for students to face real-life challenges, engage with people from different social and economic backgrounds, and develop essential life skills such as leadership, time management, teamwork, and communication.

  2. Service to Society:
NSS teaches students the importance of giving back to society by addressing local issues like cleanliness, health, education, water conservation, and environmental sustainability.

  3. Bridging the Gap:
It helps bridge the divide between urban students and rural communities, allowing youth to understand the challenges faced by marginalized sections of society.
